A job should be given to those who deserve it, not those who demand it. ― Amit Kalantri
I always wanted to write about the Reservation system which is prevailing in our Constitution, so finally I have made my mind to write about it and share my opinion. I know most of you will criticize me after reading this blog but I am just sharing my opinion.
Reservation System in India is all about reserving access to seats in the government jobs, educational institutions, and even legislatures to certain sections of the population. Article 16(4), Article 16(4A), Article 16(4B), Article 335, and Article 320(4). These articles provide explicitly for reservation in educational institutions for the backward classes. The main objective of the Indian reservation system is to increase the opportunities for enhanced social and educational status (in the sense better than the previous, until it becomes equal to that enjoyed by an average member of other communities) of the underprivileged communities and, thus, enable them to take their rightful place in the mainstream of Indian society.

In 2019 just before elections Government introduced a new category “Economically weaker section” which was just a political move and this bill was driven by false logic.
Reservation is given on the basis of Caste or Religion. It is given on basis of Population(Minority) however reservation is given on basis of financial condition, gender but it is neither sufficient nor fair and the time has come when we have to abolish reservation system on the basis of Caste or Religion and change it to Reservation based on Income. I also agree with the fact Religion and Caste discrimination still exists in the society and Rohith Vemula is one the biggest example of the existence of caste discrimination, however reservation is not the solution for this crises as reservation system is just being misused, undeserving candidates are getting seats and thus we are failing to show equality even if we want, which is affecting our education system too.

Why is the Reservation system is been misused by the people? I would share my personal life experience and will try to explain it. Two of my seniors Rajesh who belongs to Rajput Family but his family economically weaker and other friend Bharath who belongs to SC and his family is economically stronger (Father= Civil Engineer). Rajesh was comparatively better than Bharath in studies, both were preparing for a Government exam and Rajesh was more deserving as he was more qualified but he could not get the Job as talented people don’t get what they deserve. Because they are not ‘reserved‘and in other Bharath got the seat because his seat was reserved and the cutoff was very less. Now don’t you think reservation system is leading to “Murder of merit“. We need to rethink as merit and efficiency are in Danger.
Not only the people who belongs to upper caste but most of the underprivileged caste are not be use this benefits because the people who deserve those reserved seats are not able achieve it. It is high time and we have to change certain things in our reservation system. Mandal commission has broken our system.
Have you ever wonder why is Indian Army is one of most power full Armed Force it is because in Indian Army people are recruited on the bases of Merit not on the bases of our Caste. Few days back Supreme court refused to act on a petition filed by all political parties from Tamil Nadu who sought 50% OBC reservation in the all-India NEET seats surrendered by states.
“We appreciate the concern of all political parties for the welfare of Backward Classes. But reservation is not a Fundamental Right
Even Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar believed that the Reservation system should be discounted after 15 years but it still prevails in our Constitution because it has turned out to be a vote bank. I don’t say that we have to abolish reservation system but we need a change there should be reservation but not on the basis of caste or religion or colour but on the basis of poverty and economic condition. The main aim of reservation system was to strengthen two or three generation but now it is just been misused.
The ‘SC/ST Category’ people who are otherwise wealthy but want their offspring to benefit from the reservation system should know they are increasing lifespan of the caste system.
